Why it helps

Apps you hardly open can keep running in the background. Putting them to sleep saves battery without deleting anything.

What you'll notice

Apps you rarely use stop running in the background, so the battery lasts a little longer between charges.

How to set it up

Pick your phone.

Samsung Galaxy

  1. Settings
  2. Battery
  3. Background usage limits
  1. Tap "Background usage limits".
  2. Turn on "Put unused apps to sleep".
  3. Tap "Deep sleeping apps" and add apps you never need in the background.
  4. Leave out messaging apps: apps in deep sleep do not send notifications.

Labels can differ. Menu names and their order vary between models and can change with a system update. If a step doesn't match your phone, search Settings for the feature name or one of its other names: Adaptive Battery, Background usage limits, Deep sleeping apps, App battery saver.
