Phonewell

Privacy policy

Last updated 26 October 2026

This policy covers the Phonewell app for Android and this website, phonewell.app. Both are run by Blackwood Management LLC ("we", "us"). The short version: Phonewell works on your phone, not on our servers. There is no account, no ads, no analytics, and we don't sell data.

What the app reads, and where it stays

To guide you and to check what's set up, Phonewell reads some information on your phone. All of it is read and used on the device. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else.

WhatWhy
Phone model, maker and Android or One UI versionTo show the steps that match your phone and to notice when a system update may have moved or reset a setting.
Some system settings, such as Private DNS, screen lock, dark mode, gesture navigation and notification historyTo confirm that a feature you set up is switched on. Where Android doesn't allow an app to read a setting, Phonewell asks you instead, and the checkup shows "couldn't check".
Security patch date, battery charge cycles and free storageFor the phone checkup, where your phone makes them available.
Names and icons of installed apps, and whether a specific app is installedTo show apps in Tidy and Power mode, and to see whether an app a guide needs (for example Good Lock) is already there.
Your progress: which features you've set up, skipped or kept, and your settings in the appTo remember where you are. Stored only in the app's own storage on your phone.

Usage access (optional)

Tidy and parts of the checkup can use Android's usage access, if you choose to turn it on. With it, Phonewell reads when each app was last used, how much space each app takes, how many times you unlocked your phone today and your screen time. This is used only on the device to show you those numbers. Last-used dates, app sizes, unlock counts and screen time are never uploaded. You can turn usage access off at any time in Android's settings; Tidy then shows that it can't check.

Removing an app from Tidy opens Android's own uninstall dialog. Nothing is removed unless you confirm it there.

Changing settings

Most of the time Phonewell opens a settings screen and you make the change yourself. A few settings it can change with a permission you grant: the screen timeout (with "Modify system settings"), Do Not Disturb for focus (with "Do Not Disturb access") and your wallpaper. These changes stay on your phone.

Power mode and Shizuku (optional)

Power mode uses Shizuku, a separate free and open-source app you install yourself, to give Phonewell one extra system permission. Phonewell uses it locally on your phone to change specific settings when you tap them: Private DNS for ad blocking, animation speed, and switching preinstalled apps off or back on. No data is sent to us through Shizuku. You can undo each change in Phonewell's Power mode screen and turn off or uninstall Shizuku at any time.

If you turn on ad blocking, your phone sends its DNS lookups (the names of websites and services your apps connect to) to AdGuard DNS instead of your network's default provider. That is a setting of your phone, not data that Phonewell collects; AdGuard's own privacy policy applies to it. You can switch it off at any time.

Purchases

Phonewell Plus is a one-time purchase made through Google Play. Google handles the payment; we never see your card details. We use RevenueCat to confirm purchases and to let you restore them. For that, RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID created by the app and your purchase history for Phonewell (what was bought and when), along with the technical information needed to verify it with Google Play. It does not receive your name or email address from us. See RevenueCat's privacy policy and Google's privacy policy.

Notifications (optional)

Phonewell asks for notification permission only when it's useful, never on first launch. If you allow it, it sends at most one notification a week: a short check-in on something you set up. Notifications are scheduled on the phone. You can turn them off in the app or in Android's settings.

What we don't do

Links to other apps and sites

Some guides suggest another app (for example Good Lock from Samsung) and open its store page. Those apps and stores have their own privacy policies.

This website

phonewell.app sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address as part of delivering them. The site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (such as IP address and the page requested) for security and operations.

Children

Phonewell is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them. Because the app doesn't collect personal information in the first place, there is nothing for us to delete; if you have a question, contact us.

Your choices and rights

Everything Phonewell stores is on your phone. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling it deletes it. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access or delete personal data held about you; since we don't hold personal data from the app, requests about purchases are best directed to Google Play and RevenueCat, and we're happy to help.

Delete your data

To remove everything Phonewell keeps on your phone, clear the app's storage (Settings, Apps, Phonewell, Storage, Clear data) or uninstall it.

The only record kept off your phone is your Phonewell Plus purchase, held by Google Play and by RevenueCat under an anonymous ID. To have that record deleted, email hello@blackwood.management with the subject "Delete my Phonewell data" and the order number from your Google Play receipt. We'll ask RevenueCat to delete it within 30 days and confirm by email. Deleting the purchase record doesn't refund the purchase; for refunds, use Google Play.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
