Why it helps

Your Pixel can recognise music playing nearby, offline, and show the title on the lock screen with a history to look back on.

What you'll notice

The song name appears on your lock screen while it plays.

How to set it up

Google Pixel

  1. Settings
  2. Sound & vibration
  3. Now Playing
  1. Open Settings, then "Sound & vibration"
  2. Tap "Now Playing"
  3. Turn on "Identify songs playing nearby"

Pixel 6 and newer.

Based on reports from owners and the tech press. We have not yet checked it on a phone ourselves.

How to undo it

Switch "Identify songs playing nearby" off in the same screen.

Labels can differ. Menu names and their order vary between models and can change with a system update. If a step doesn't match your phone, search Settings for the feature name or one of its other names: song recognition, shazam, what song is this, music id.
