Let your phone wind down at bedtime by itself
Bedtime routine, step by step on Samsung and Pixel phones.
Why it helps
One routine silences the phone, turns the screen grey and dark at bedtime, then puts everything back in the morning. A grey screen is far less tempting to scroll.
What you'll notice
At bedtime the phone goes quiet, dark and grey; in the morning it is back to normal without you touching anything.
How to set it up
Pick your phone.

- Settings
- Modes and Routines
- Routines
- Open Settings, then "Modes and Routines", tap the "Routines" tab and tap "+"
- Under "If", add "Time period" and set your bedtime and wake-up time
- Under "Then", add "Do not disturb", "Dark mode" and "Grayscale" (search the action list if needed), each set to on
- Tap "Done" and save; the changes undo themselves when the time period ends

Labels can differ. Menu names and their order vary between models and can change with a system update. If a step doesn't match your phone, search Settings for the feature name or one of its other names: bedtime mode, sleep routine, bixby routines, modes and routines, wind down.
