Why it helps

A dim clock with your notification icons stays on the locked screen, so a glance replaces picking up and unlocking.

What you'll notice

The time, battery level and notification icons stay visible on a dark screen while the phone is locked.

How to set it up

Pick your phone.

Samsung Galaxy

  1. Settings
  2. Lock screen and AOD
  3. Always On Display
  1. Tap "Always On Display" and turn it on.
  2. Choose when it shows: "Tap to show", "Show always" or "Show as scheduled".

Based on reports from owners and the tech press. We have not yet checked it on a phone ourselves.

Google Pixel

  1. Settings
  2. Display
  3. Lock screen
  1. Tap "Lock screen".
  2. Turn on "Always show time and info".

Based on reports from owners and the tech press. We have not yet checked it on a phone ourselves.

How to undo it

Turn it off in the same screen.

Labels can differ. Menu names and their order vary between models and can change with a system update. If a step doesn't match your phone, search Settings for the feature name or one of its other names: AOD, Ambient display, Always show time and info.
