Why it helps

Your keyboard can proofread a message or rewrite it to sound friendlier or more professional, in any app.

What you'll notice

A rough draft becomes a tidy message, and you choose which version to send.

When to use it

When a message matters, then open the writing tools on the keyboard before you send it.

How to set it up

Pick your phone.

Samsung Galaxy

  1. Samsung Keyboard
  2. Toolbar
  3. Galaxy AI
  4. Writing assist
  1. Type your message
  2. Tap the Galaxy AI icon on the keyboard toolbar, then "Writing assist"
  3. Pick a proofread or a tone, then tap the version you want

Needs Galaxy AI: Galaxy S23 or newer, recent Z foldables, and recent A-series phones on One UI 6.1 or later.

Based on reports from owners and the tech press. We have not yet checked it on a phone ourselves.

Google Pixel

  1. Gboard
  2. Toolbar
  3. Writing tools
  1. Type your message
  2. Tap "Writing tools" on the Gboard toolbar
  3. Pick proofread or a rewrite style, then tap the version you want

Pixel 9 and newer, and Pixel 8 Pro.

Based on reports from owners and the tech press. We have not yet checked it on a phone ourselves.

How to undo it

Nothing to switch off: keep your original text if you prefer it.

Labels can differ. Menu names and their order vary between models and can change with a system update. If a step doesn't match your phone, search Settings for the feature name or one of its other names: writing assist, proofread, rewrite, tone, chat assist.
