Why it helps

Your Phone app can check incoming numbers against known spam and warn you, or quietly block the worst ones.

What you'll notice

Likely spam calls are labelled on screen, or never ring at all.

How to set it up

Pick your phone.

Samsung Galaxy

  1. Phone app
  2. Settings
  3. Caller ID and spam protection
  1. Open the Phone app, tap the three dots, then "Settings".
  2. Tap "Caller ID and spam protection" and turn it on.
  3. Turn on blocking for spam and scam calls if you want them silenced.

Based on reports from owners and the tech press. We have not yet checked it on a phone ourselves.

Google Pixel

  1. Phone app
  2. Settings
  3. Spam and Call Screen
  1. Open the Phone app, tap the three dots, then "Settings".
  2. Tap "Spam and Call Screen" (called "Caller ID & spam" on older versions).
  3. Turn on "Filter spam calls".

Based on reports from owners and the tech press. We have not yet checked it on a phone ourselves.

How to undo it

Turn the filter off in the Phone app settings.

Labels can differ. Menu names and their order vary between models and can change with a system update. If a step doesn't match your phone, search Settings for the feature name or one of its other names: Caller ID and spam protection, Block robocalls, Call blocking, Spam filter.
