Why it helps

Big screens are hard to use with one hand. One-handed mode pulls the whole screen down so the top is within reach.

What you'll notice

A quick swipe brings the top of the screen down to your thumb; tap above it to go back.

When to use it

When you are holding the phone in one hand and need the top of the screen, then swipe down on the bottom edge.

How to set it up

Pick your phone.

Samsung Galaxy

  1. Settings
  2. Advanced features
  3. One-handed mode
  1. Open Settings, then "Advanced features"
  2. Tap "One-handed mode" and turn it on
  3. Choose the gesture (a swipe down in the middle of the bottom edge, or a double tap on the home button)

Based on reports from owners and the tech press. We have not yet checked it on a phone ourselves.

Google Pixel

  1. Settings
  2. System
  3. Gestures
  4. One-handed mode
  1. Open Settings, then "System", "Gestures" and "One-handed mode"
  2. Turn on "Use one-handed mode"
  3. Swipe down on the bottom edge of the screen to try it

Based on reports from owners and the tech press. We have not yet checked it on a phone ourselves.

How to undo it

Switch one-handed mode off in the same screen.

Labels can differ. Menu names and their order vary between models and can change with a system update. If a step doesn't match your phone, search Settings for the feature name or one of its other names: reachability, one hand, pull down screen.
